In partnership with the Point Loma/Hervey Branch Library, Zero Waste San Diego will hold its 2nd Annual Reuse/Repair Fair and EcoFilm Festival
The free event will feature more than a dozen exhibitors and hands-on workshops, four films, and activities for children as well as adults. The Point Loma/Hervey Branch Library is located at 3701 Voltaire Street, San Diego, CA 92107.
Featured movies include Annie Leonard's hit film The Story of Stuff, a humorous and poignant animated short masterfully summarizing the true impacts and costs of our consumer-driven culture. Also being shown is the multiple award-winning documentary, The Recyclergy, Leonardo DiCaprio's compelling look at the state of our natural environment, The 11th Hour, and Blue Vinyl, two award-winning filmmakers' search for the true impacts of PVC on the environment and public health.
A schedule of movies and show times can be found on Zero Waste San Diego's website, www.zerowastesandiego.org. Workshops include, among others yet to be announced, leather repair, composting and vermicomposting (using worms), papermaking, furniture repair, and even how to turn old sweaters into wallets and purses. Exhibitors and sponsors include the Surfrider Foundation, San Diego Chapter, Solana Center for Environmental Innovation, Agri Service, Inc., Stumps Family Marketplace, Classic Wines, Cupcakes Squared, and Whyte's Antiques. In addition to films and workshops, there will be a silent auction and recycled product giveaways, a bake sale, live entertainment, ecoartists, movie discussion sessions, and other activities to be announced on Zero Waste San Diego's website. Zero Waste San Diego is a non-profit organization formed to educate the public and implement programs designed to reduce wasted resources in the region. Areas of the organization's focus include producer responsibility, sustainable product design, source reduction, reuse, composting, and recycling.
