Orange Tabby Cat Celebrates Graduation After Surviving Coyote Attack

Kyle's story began in July 2025, when a compassionate community member witnessed the cat being attacked by a coyote near East Valley Parkway in Escondido. The Good Samaritan intervened, bringing Kyle to the Humane Society for urgent medical care.
Despite sustaining serious injuries to his neck and chest during the attack, Kyle displayed remarkable strength and resilience. In California, animals bitten by potential rabies carriers are required to undergo a six-month isolation period to be monitored for symptoms, a precautionary measure to prevent the spread of disease.
Kyle spent this crucial time in a larger enclosure within the office of Rebecca Smith, the Associate Director of Guest Relations and Animal Placement at the Humane Society. Providing Kyle with comfort and support became a priority, ensuring his mental and physical health while he healed.
“Kyle’s resilience has been remarkable,” said Smith. “From learning to play with enrichment toys to enjoying window time and treats, he’s shown us he’s a fighter. His caretaker, Dani, has been instrumental in his recovery and has become his biggest advocate.”
